President of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (CoHSS-KNUST), Richard Kovor wants the Dean of Students to speed up the process for release of funds to beneficiaries of KNUST bursary and Ketewa Biara Nsua (KBN).
This was contained in a petition to the office of the Dean of Students Affairs, on March 25, 2022.
According to the Richard Kovor, Many students depend on scholarships such as the KNUST SRC Bursary, KBN as financial assistance for the payment of fees. Hence release of funds to beneficiaries ahead of the fee payment deadline will offer students the opportunity to make payment of their fees and avoid any implications.
“The non-payment of academic fees by many students still persists as data shows that most of our dear students fund their education themselves or are battled with unimaginable financial constraints which make them highly dependent on existing scholarship and bursaries to cater for important needs as payment of tuition and accommodation fees. It is therefore imperative for us to fervently plead with the Students’ Affairs and Financial Services at your office to accelerate the disbursement processes of the KNUST SRC Bursary and KBN to all qualified students. As students, we will continue to make extensive efforts by reaching out to philanthropists, families, and relatives, and explore other pragmatic ways for support within this two week- extension period”, he said.
His petition follows the decision of management to extend the fee payment deadline for 2021/2022 academic year.
The university management rescinded on its decision to automatically defer students who are unable to pay their fees by Thursday 24 March following a plea by the Students Representative Council who asked for the school to be more considerate.
As a result, the school has extended the deadline from Thursday March 24 to Thursday April 7, 2022.
According to a release by the University, continuing students of the university were supposed to make a payment of the minimum 70% (ie. 50% of tuition and 100% of all other charges).
Following the extension, the Students Representative Council has encouraged students who had not paid to take advantage of the opportunity.
The university in a statement noted that there will be no further extension.
