On Monday 29 March 2021, Some students from the various colleges at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) commended the bold step of the SRC’s Financial Secretary, Master Solomon Osei Fosu, for the publication of the first semester budget.
The students believes such a bold step by Master Solomon Osei Fosu and the Samuel Sesah led-Administration gives hope to the student body as to how their monies are spent and exciting future of transparency in student leadership.
They thanked Master Solomon Osei Fosu and the entire administration of Master Samuel Sesah, on the fulfillment of their constitutional mandate by releasing the budget for the mid-academic year (first semester).
In response, the SRC Financial Secretary, Master Osei Fosu Solomon said the Samuel Sesah led SRC is bound to fulfill its promise by ensuring transparency, accountability and right to information which will enable students know what their monies are used for.
“This is indeed a change that we can defy all odds, as an ordinary students of KNUST have the right to information and know what their monies are used for. We March On to Defy All Odds to transparent and accountability”, he added.
Background
On March 26, The Financial Secretary of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Students Representative Council, Master Solomon Osei Fosu, released the first semester budget of the SRC for the 2020/2021 academic year.
Master Solomon Osei Fosu’s release of the SRC’s budget statement has been tagged as historic, following his great step to bridge the gap between the financial accountability of the SRC and students.
For a long period of students Administration, KNUST students have been deprived of knowing what the SRC uses their monies for.
However, Master Solomon Osei Fosu has set the pace which paints a clear picture of an SRC that’s accountable to students by releasing the budget statement for the mid-academic year (First Semester).
Releasing this budget to students is an unprecedented achievement of Master Solomon Osei Fosu and the Samuel Sesah KNUST SRC led- Administration.
