The two leading Presidential Aspirants in this year’s Faculty of Social Sciences Society (SOCIOSO) elections at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Master Joseph Wiafe and Prince Amoah Frimpong have strengthened their effort and vision at helping to tackle the growing graduate unemployment through well-focused entrepreneurial skills training.

Speaking to Thriller News GH, the two potential Presidents said they are poised to take the centre stage and lead in Social Sciences Society’s (SOCIOSO) development agenda.

They continued to explain that when the good  people of Socioso gives them the opportunity to serve as the leaders of the faculty, they are determined to build the capacity of students and encourage them to set up their own businesses to create jobs for themselves and others.

This comes against their research that just about only two per cent of the estimated 250,000 young men and women, entering the nation’s labour market every year, is absorbed into the formal sector.

The remaining 98 per cent ends up either in the informal sector or unemployed.

As a result, they are well determined to change the narrative and make sure that students have an added value skill which will ultimately help create their own establishment.

To ensure that students of the faculty of social sciences become different among other graduates and fit into the demand of the labour market, Master Joseph Wiafe and Prince Amoah Frimpong have decided to train students in Website Design, Graphic Design, Excel, Fashion Design, Digital Marketing, Journalism, Photography, Videography among others which will create opportunity for students to have their own profession aside their degree.

The astute Presidential Aspirants as part of their vision to sharpen entrepreneurial skills of students have also resolved to create platforms for student entrepreneurs to showcase and promote their products.

Master Joseph Wiafe and Prince Amoah Frimpong have come together to discuss the issues and challenges faced in SOCIOSO and to provide feasible solutions to them. They are contesting this years’ SOCIOSO Presidency with the mantra “A Clarion Call To Duty”.
