Introduction of Sanitary Bank Initiative

On March 17, 2021, The Michael Abuah-led Science Students Association (SCISA) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology launched the first-ever sanitary bank initiative to hit campus under the auspices of the women’s commission.

The Sanitary Bank initiative was launched during the Wise Hour program organized by the women’s commission and was attended by vital personalities, some of them included: Serwaa Amihere (Broadcast Journalist), Adwoa Fosua (Founder, Women’s Haven Africa), Adwoa Amofa Osei (Broadcast Journalist) and many others.

The Sanitary Bank initiative was aimed to help the ladies of the College of Science in times of emergency.

The College of Science upon its Sanitary Bank Initiative called on people and organizations to donate hygienic sanitary products like pads and tampons, deodorants, bathing soaps, detergents, hand sanitizers, disposable bags to help the women in the college.

The Sanitary Bank since its launch has received sanitary products from donors and today there have been provision of pads at the various washrooms of the college of Science.

Commendations

Barely four months after the launch of the Sanitary Bank Initiative, About hundreds of students who spoke to Thriller News GH has lauded the efforts of the Michael Abuah-led SCISA for the bold decision to help ladies in times of emergency. Others have asked other associations to adopt such a policy to help women in the various students’ associations.

Matilda, a member of the college of Science who spoke to Thriller News GH expressed how the Sanitary Bank has been of an immense help for her, particularly its availability in the washrooms.

“On one faithful Wednesday, i nearly spoilt myself because i forgot i was on my period. I quickly rushed to one of the washrooms and luckily for me, i found a pad which helped me clean myself”, she said.

SCISA Setting The Pace

The introduction of the Sanitary Bank by the Michael Abuah-led SCISA has made many more associations and student leaders know how it could be of support for ladies and many student leaders have started to adopt such policies.
