Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections, has apologized for his “your Nkrumah” comment during his unveiling ceremony in Kumasi on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

The lawmaker of the Manhyia South Constituency popularly known as NAPO while addressing a crowd of NPP sympathizers said “since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah… no president who has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo”.

This statement has brought Dr. Opoku Prempeh under public criticism.

However, in a letter dated July 12, 2024, Dr. Prempeh has apologized stating he never meant to denigrate any former head of state of Ghana.

“I wish to emphasise that I never meant to disrespect our former President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any of our former heads of state, including my own grand uncle and mentor, Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor.
