Ghana, since its independence in 1957, has had many political parties and movements take turns in governance. However, since the inception of the fourth Republican Constitution in 1992, the West African country has been governed by two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This political duopoly in the country has been blamed by some citizens as the cause of poor governance and development in the country with many citizens calling for the review of the 1992 constitution which they think gives the Executive arm of government so much power.

To break the duopoly between the NDC and NPP as Ghana prepares for its 9th election since 1992 on December 7, 2024, Independent presidential candidate Alan John Kyerematen has announced a strategic partnership with the National Interest Movement, a political think tank led by former Convention People’s Party (CPP) flagbearer Abu Sakara, ahead of the 2024 elections.

This collaboration dubbed ‘Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC),’ was announced on Thursday, April 4, 2024 in a statement signed by Mr. Alan Kyerematen.

According to him, the objectives of the Alliance, which is slated for an official launch on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 is to rally Ghanaians from diverse backgrounds, with a particular emphasis on engaging the youth and women, in order to elect the first independent candidate as President of Ghana.

While highlighting the failures of the dominant political parties, the NDC and the NPP, the Alliance promises to fight the fundamental challenges of development in Ghana over the past 32 years and to break the ‘Winner takes all’ syndrome.

The ARC plans to reunite the citizenry from various sectors of society, to work towards a National Development Plan that will guide the country’s economic transformation.
