Following the directive by management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) asking the SRC President, Michael Abuah to step down, the Students Representative Council has appointed the General Secretary, Benedicta Tiwaa Amankwah to act as the SRC President.

According to a release by the Public Relations Office of the SRC, Benedicta Tiwaa Amankwah is to act as the SRC President effective today Saturday, August 27, 2022.
The Deputy Public Relations Officer, Valentine Essoun, has also been appointed as the acting General Secretary and Gilbert Nkrumah will also act as the Financial Secretary.
These developments come after a letter by the University management dated August 25,2022, directed the SRC President (Michael Adofo Abuah), Vice President (Reginald Amo Yeboah), SRC Speaker (Andrew Anokye Kyeremanteng) and Financial Secretary (Derek Andy Dadzie) to step aside from their positions pending the conclusion of the official investigation into the allegations of misconduct leveled against them.
The SRC President, Michael Abuah and other executives have been accused of embezzlement of funds over their failure to embark on a paid trip to South Africa.
Michael Adofo Abuah and Andrew Anokoye Kyeremanteng were expected to embark on educational trip to South Africa as requested by the South African Union of Students in collaboration with the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG).
They however failed to embark on the trip which allegedly attracted a cost of GH¢9,100.00.
Management of the University earlier ordered them to refund an amount of GHC 6,710.00 each by August 8 without fail.
The University in a new release has further directed the SRC President, Speaker, Financial Secretary and Vice President to step down as they investigate the matter.
