KNUST SRC Parliament approves Michael Abuah’s first semester budget after voting

The Students Representative Council Parliament of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST SRC Parliament) has approved the first semester budget for the 2021/2022 academic year after a vote.

About 40 Parliamentarians, majority were in favour of approving the budget.

The voice vote was overseen by the SRC Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Anokye Kyeremanteng.

The first semester Budget, which is dubbed “Nyasapo Budget” was earlier suspended following a tough debate by members of the SRC Parliament on its first hearing on January 26, 2022.

Some of the proposed budgetary allocation were widely criticised by Parliamentarians and various stakeholders.

There were also concerns about the total budget for the semester which wasn’t properly mentioned in the budget statement.

Following the approval of the budget, Thriller News GH checks reveal that the total budget approved by Parliament is GHC 881,560 (for both programs and projects).

The budgetary allocation for programs is GHC 480,560 and 401,000 for projects.

Meanwhile, some of the programs and projects mentioned in the budget has already taken place by the SRC.

This includes the Secretariat connect program held on Saturday 29 January, 2022,  donation of pickup to KNUST Police Service which was done Wednesday February 2, 2022.
