
Speaker of the Students’ Representative Council Parliament of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST SRC Parliament), Andrew Anokye Kyeremanteng, has been asked to step down by management of the University.

This follows allegations of misconduct against the SRC President, Michael Abuah and Speaker, Anokye Kyeremanteng over their failure to embark on a paid trip to South Africa.
The SRC President, Michael Adofo Abuah and the SRC Speaker, Andrew Anokoye Kyeremanteng, were expected to embark on educational trip to South Africa as requested by the South African Union of Students in collaboration with the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG).
They however failed to embark on the trip which allegedly attracted a cost of GH¢9,100.00.
Management of the University earlier ordered them to refund an amount of GHC 6,710.00 each by August 8 without fail.
The University in a new release has further directed the SRC President, Speaker, Financial Secretary and Vice President to step down as they investigate the matter.
According to a release on Saturday August 27 by the SRC Parliament and signed by the Clerk, Princess Jennifer Hagan, the Deputy Speaker, Eunice Kyeremanteng will now take over as the SRC Speaker of Parliament.
The letter addressed to the SRC Parliament house stated ‘Rt. Hon. Andrew Anokye Kyeremanteng ceases to be the Chair of the House’.
“In reference to a letter DoSA/SRC/7/VOL23 served to the House on 26th August,2022 stating some allegations of misconduct levelled against the Speaker. I write on behalf of the House to notify you of that from today 27th August, 2022, Rt. Hon. Andrew Anokye Kyeremanteng ceases to be the Chair of the House. Due to this the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Eunice Kyeremanteng will take over and preside over the house as parliamentary business are to carry on. We hope and trust that Madam Speaker carries out her duties diligently and brings the House to end on a good and successful note”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Michael Abuah has also stepped down as SRC President as directed by the University management.
Benedicta Tiwaa Amankwah is now the acting SRC President of the University.
