KNUST SRC promises to donate 50 laptops to support the Vice-Chancellor’s SONSOL initiative

The students representative Council (SRC), as part of its 60th anniversary celebration, has promised to take advantage to support underprivileged students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with 50 laptops.

Speaking at the first occasion of the Support One Needy Student With One Laptop (SONSOL) Project held at the Great Hall where 533 students received brand new laptops from the University, SRC President, Master Samuel Sesah reiterated the SRC’s commitment to donate 50 laptops to support the Vice-Chancellor’s initiative.

“We as an SRC have promised to donate 50 laptops to SONSOL (Support One Needy Student With One Laptop). Processes for purchasing have started and we hope they come in due time, he said.”.

He also added “As part of sustaining this project, we hope to pass a legislation through the SRC Parliament to allow us put a percentage
of our annual dues into this very supportive project”.

About the Support One Needy Student With One Laptop (SONSOL) Project

The SONSOL project is in line with the vision of the first female Vice-Chancellor of KNUST geared towards helping poor students who may be unable to acquire a laptop for online studies.

During the inaugural address of the Female Vice Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, she said one of her key vision will be to roll out a special initiative dubbed: “Support one needy student with one laptop” to help poor students who may be unable to acquire a laptop for online studies.

Prof. Akosua Dickson believes digital and e-education would be key in sustaining education all year round and to create a young research forum for the university.

According her, it has become necessary to build a robust and resilient e-system together with diverse online platforms to enhance teaching, learning and research.

The SONSOL project has so far received a tremendous push from stakeholders including Vodafone Ghana, Stanbic Bank Ghana, Consolidated Bank Ghana, Standard Chartered Bank, SIC, Tobinco, Zoomlion Ghana, Absa Bank among others.
