FSHS: Government releases GHC26 million to institutional suppliers

Following recent reviews and hole-punching into the Free Senior High School (FSHS) program, by the public and Educational Stakeholders, the Ministry of Education has released funds for institutional supplies.

In a press statement signed by the Spokesperson of the ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng, an amount of GHC26,000,000.00 has been duly disbursed to institutional suppliers responsible for  the supply of school uniforms, Physical Education Kits, stationary amongst other things that provides easy operations of the program.

“The Ministry of Education is pleased to announce the disbursement of GHC26,000,000.00 to institutional suppliers responsible for the supply of school uniforms, P.E Kits, stationary, etc. as part of the Free Senior High School Program”, the statement read.

According to the statement, the amount released by the ministry underscores the government’s commitment to fostering quality education. The funds released are to also ensure a smooth running of the various Government Assisted second cycle educational institutions in the country.

“The amount released, underscores the Government’s commitment to fostering quality education and ensuring the smooth running of educational institutions”, it added.

The statement further affirmed the ministry’s continuous commitment to ensuring a timely, efficient and smooth distribution of resources necessary to improve and sustain quality education in Ghana.

This intervention by government comes after the National Association of Institutional Suppliers picketed at the ministry weeks ago over the government’s failure to fulfill payments for supplied uniforms, house dresses, and other essential items to numerous senior high schools over the past two academic years.
