Koforidua to host Ghana’s 67th Independence Day Celebration

Ghana’s 67th Independence day celebration is slated to take place in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua on March 6, 2024.

The celebration this year is themed “Our Democracy, Our Pride” and expected to take place in the recently opened Koforidua Youth Resource Center.

Alassane Dramane Ouattara, the president of Ivory Coast, will be the anniversary celebration’s special guest of honor.

The event is anticipated to include past presidents of the nation, 120 ambassadors and high commissioners, the Speaker of Parliament and all of his colleagues, the Chief Justice, and every judge of the Supreme Court.

There will be twenty-one contingents at the grounds with their equipment on full display. These contingents include various security agencies, eleven schools in the region, sixteen regional capitals, and eighteen groups.

Dr. Lord Commey

In his remarks at the launch, Dr. Lord Commey, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Director of Operations at the Presidency, listed several week-long events. He said these are carefully planned to make this year’s commemoration unique. Dr. Lord Commey emphasized that this is the President’s directives.

“There’s no better place; he has no choice than to come home, hence the celebration of the 67th Independence Day Celebration, which is President Akufo-Addo’s last celebration to be held in Koforidua,” Dr. Lord Commey confirmed.

“Twenty-one contingents, made up of various security agencies and eleven contingents made of various schools in the region. Sixteen regional capitals representing, eighteen groupings from the various bodies. Equipment on display, including all the equipment you know of. As you have seen, independence in all the regions is the same. The President has said that not a single item should be left out in this celebration,” he added
