The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced the start of its ‘Operation No Free Consumption’ exercise.
According to a communiqué by the ECG, it wishes to inform customers and users consuming electricity for free that it has begun their ‘Operation No Free Consumption’, effective Feb 1. to Feb 16.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) wishes to inform all customers and users of electricity who are consuming electricity without paying for it that ECG is embarking on Operation No Free Consumption, effective Thursday, February 1st, to Friday, February 16th, 2024,” part of the communiqué read.
ECG teams, per the communiqué, would be on the field to update client information, such as phone numbers and GPS coordinates, gather any past due amounts, and disconnect if they are not paid.
The team would also “pick pictorial readings of all postpaid meters with our new meter reading electronic device (a Zeus Mobile device).
Capture and regularize all Self -Help Electrification Programme (SHEP) and non-ECG meters on our Zeus mobile device for customers to pay the regularization fee.”
In addition, the communiqué said that a small pool of employees will work in the regional and district offices in light of this exercise, providing consumers with necessary services.
“In view of this exercise, the regional and district offices will operate with a lean staff pool that will provide essential services to customers during this exercise,” it said.
