
Ghana’s Ministry of Interior has realeased a press statement announcing the renewal of curfew hours imposed on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region of the country.
According to the press release, the renewal which takes effect from Friday, January 12, 2024 would now have the curfew hours moved from 8:00pm to 5:00am.
“The Minister for the Interior has by Executive Instrument renewed the curfew hours imposed on Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am effective Friday, January 12, 2024,” part of the press release said.
In the press release, the government requested that Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and the local populace display moderation in the face of the difficulties they face and direct their energy toward maintaining peace through nonviolent means.
“Government calls on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”
Again, the Ministry said that anyone detected in possession of any kind of weaponry, including firearms or ammunition, may face legal action and arrest.
“Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in the afore-mentioned communities and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” they said.
