Social media users are reacting to what seems to be ‘devastating’ as more than thousand (1000) students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been deferred by the University following their inability to pay their fees.
On Tuesday, 19th April, 2022, students who owe the university started receiving messages that they have been deferred due to their inability to meet the “minimum requirements of the KNUST fees Credit and Debt Management Policy”.
“Dear student, your programme has been deferred as you have not met the minimum requirement of the KNUST fees Credit and Debt Management Policy. Thank you,” a message sighted by Thriller News GH read.

Following this, there have been calls on the SRC President, Master Michael Abuah to stand in and speak on behalf of the affected students for management to rescind its deferral action.
In several tweets, the SRC President said he is also affected and that the only option students have is to make payment to revert the action by management.
“What’s happening? this is what’s happening& the only way we could save ourselves is to pay arrears. Another reason why coincidentally I’m in this situation myself. our plea now could be just one “please accept our late payment & revert the deferral” if we’re ready to pay”, he tweeted.

Meanwhile, many students have taken it on the various social media platforms particularly Twitter to share their plight.
Check some reactions below;
It's unfair for management to still go ahead and defer students who have also paid more than 50% of fees all in the name of the 70% threshold. #KNUST

@knust_src your students are being deferred, what are you doing about it.
We won't sit down for the management of the school to defer students because of fees.
The SRC is the voice of the students, come out with a realistic way forward.#KNUST— Kontomire_fr)y3 (@kontomire_y) April 19, 2022
It's sad to hear that some colleagues have been deferred from their programs.
I ask myself;
Is this the only best option for management?What was the SRC's contribution to this cause?
To what extent did our student Leaders "fight" on behalf of students?#KNUST

I believe our leadership can do better than this.

My parent always asks me why should we pay academic year fees in just a semester.
It doesn't make sense #KNUST
Someone has paid approximately 67% which shows a commitment to paying in full by next semester.
Why defer them after mid-semester huh 😕

Chale this school is just something else smh #KNUST

That's why we have 2 semesters in each academic year. Something can be done about this sad development.#KNUST

Why should we pay academic year fees in just a semester?
An individual has paid approximately 60% of the fees which shows an allegiance to paying in full by Godwilling next semester. Why defer him/her right after mid-semester examination? #KNUST— Nana Tuffour (@_9924_) April 19, 2022

I broke down in tears upon the news on the Deferment of the 1000+ of our dear students as per the @KNUSTGH Fees Credit and Debt Management Policy😭
I plead for mercy as all indicators show that these students are constrained financially.
I propose PAYMENT PLAN as an alternative. pic.twitter.com/3OsmqyvIFK— I am Richard Kovor (DR. K🇬🇭) (@RICHARDKOVOR) April 19, 2022
