
Faculty of Social Sciences Society of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Socioso-KNUST) has organized a covid-19 sensitization program for students of the Faculty.
The event which was dubbed ”The increasing COVID-19 cases and its psychological implications on academic work” took place at the CCB auditorium on Wednesday, 23rd February,2021.
The guest speaker for the event was Mrs. Charlotte Boakye Danquah,who is the Head of the Paediatrics and Covid-19 team at the KNUST hospital.
Mrs. Charlotte B. Danquah in her presentation, admonished students of the faculty to take the covid-19 virus seriously and to practically and duely observe the preventive protocols and other precautionary measures put in place by the Faculty and the University authority to prevent the out break of the virus in the school and it’s further spread.
She noted that individuals whose temperatures are 37.9°c or above when checked should not hesitate to avail themselves to be quarantine for further check ups and tests since an increased temperature beyond the normal is a symptom of infection of the virus.
“When your temperature is 37.9°c or above and you are requested to quarantine or isolate doesn’t mean you have the virus, but this is a measure to protect you and those around you” she advised.
She further demonstrated and took students at the program through proper hand washing habits, application of hand sanitizers and how to properly wear and remove their nose mask without getting themselves infected with the virus.

The chairman of the Covid-19 committee of the Faculty, Dr. Seth Agyemang, also took turn to address students of the Faculty on the subject “psychological impact of covid-19 on students”.
In his speech, Dr. Seth Agyemang noted that and outbreak of the virus have had a lot of psychological effects on students and their activities with research proving that students fall within the vulnerable group of individuals who could easily contract the virus due to the nature of their interactions and activities.
He said that the rising number of covid-19 cases and it’s related deaths, conspiracy theories and fake information has put alot of fear in most students which affects their psychological health and academic work but ensured students of their safety.

He applauded the executive committee of the Faculty for their support in complimenting the efforts of the University to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
“There is a covid-19 task force comprising of students from the Faculty and teaching assistants to check your temperature and ensure that you sanitize your hands before you enter your lecture halls. The various lecture theaters, Offices and halls of residence shall be disinfected periodically”, He disclosed
“There is also an isolation center provided at the faculty were students who show symptoms of the virus will temporarily be quarantined before officials from the Covid-19 team of the University’s hospital come in”, He added.
He admitted that the Faculty face certain challenges since some students and lecturers do not avail themselves for temperature checkups and therefore, encourage them to humbly submit themselves to members of the Faculty’s Covid-19 taskforce for check ups for their own safety.
