Residents of the Hilla Limann Hall at the University of Ghana are baffled at how Wi-Fi routers, installed to give them access to the internet, are going missing.
On almost every floor, there were incidents where residents will wake up in the morning, only to realize that the installed device is no longer at its original place.
There are not sure of the people orchestrating these mysterious disappearance of the devices.
The students say the development is affecting their academic work as they have a hard time trying to get online to partake in classes, with the school now undertaking most of its academic work online.
“There used to be a router some few meters away from my room and that was helping me to connect to the internet. Because it was not so far, I had quite a stable internet connection to undertake my academic activities. But now, that router is gone and I barely get connected to the wifi when I’m in the room,” one of the residents, who gave his name as John, told Radio Univers.
Another resident in the Hall, also told UniversNews about how the development is causing her to spend more on personal internet data.
“For some weeks now, I have not been able to connect to the Wi-Fi. I thought it was a problem from UGCS but we later realized that the router was gone. I now have to be buying internet data for my personal use, which is expensive,” Abigail, a Political Science student told UniversNews
The Junior Common Room (JCR) of the Limann Hall, says that it is equally shocked by the disappearance of the routers.
JCR Vice-President, Fritz Moses, says that efforts are being made to identify the perpetrators.
He has called for calm among residents as they find a solution to the problem.
