UMaT receives brand new fully equipped ambulance from Gold Fields Ghana

Gold Fields Ghana, Tarkwa Mine through the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation has donated a brand new fully equipped ambulance to the University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa.

The ambulance, which costs US$35,000.00 (about GHC2000,000.00), was presented by Mr Alfred Baku, Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa.

The presentation took place during the 2021 World Health Day celebration on Wednesday, 7th April, 2021 at the University. The celebration was fronted by the UMaT chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). Prof Agyeman Badu Akosa, the distinguished pathologist was the speaker for the celebration on the theme ‘The Silent Killers, A Public Health Challenge’.

Presenting the ambulance, Mr Alfred Baku said Gold Fields and UMaT have developed strong ties over the years through partnership in talent and industry development. He noted that, Gold Fields and the Mining industry in Ghana rely on UMaT for professionals required for critical roles in the mining sector and noted that UMaT assists the Mining sector with scientific research which translate into technical advice and recommendations for best practices in mining and minerals processing.

Mr Baku reiterated that Gold Fields and UMaT will continue to partner themselves for mutual benefit.

Mr Alfred Baku stated that Gold Fields is committed to quality healthcare for its employees and members of host communities based on the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) three. He, therefore, urged the University Administration to ensure maintenance of the ambulance, which was presented in response to a request made by the University.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Richard K. Amankwah received the ambulance on behalf of the University and expressed the gratitude of the University to Gold Fields Ghana Foundation. He stated that the ambulance has come at the right time to help in good health delivery. He assured that the University would take good care of the ambulance.
