The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abednego F. O. Amartey has received a shot of the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday as part of an ongoing mass vaccination exercise.

Members of the university’s management team were also inoculated against the disease.

Professor Amartey, shortly after taking the COVID-19 jab, urged students and staff of the university to get inoculated when it gets to their turn.

He also parried beliefs and conspiracy theories casting doubts on the safety of the vaccine and the exercise as a whole.

He also parried beliefs and conspiracy theories casting doubts on the safety of the vaccine and the exercise as a whole.

Ghana launched an immunization campaign against the novel Coronavirus disease on Monday, 1st March, days after taking delivery of the first shipment of the COVAX vaccines.

The UPSA Ewuntoma Clinic hosted the COVID-19 vaccination team made up of health professionals drawn from the Madina Polyclinic and the Ghana Health Service.

The first phase of vaccination which is targeting high risk individuals, State officials and frontline health workers also saw some deans, directors and lecturers of the university being vaccinated.

Those with underlying medical conditions as well as persons aged 50 and above were also included in the exercise which lasted over five hours.

Some recipients of the vaccine include Mr. Mark Otibo, director, Human Resource, Mrs Aba Lokko, director of Public Affairs, Dr Ampem Darko, President of UTAG-UPSA and Mr Fortune Fio, director of Legal Services.

The rest are Mr George Quartey, director, Quality Assurance, Mr Edward Odjidja, director, physical development as well as Dr. Edward Attah-Botachwey, head of the department of banking and finance.
