ACCRA — The Ministry of the Interior has declared Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, as statutory public holidays to mark Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively.
In a statement released Monday, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak urged the general public to observe the holidays nationwide in accordance with the Public Holidays Act.
“Friday, 18th April 2025, and Monday, 21st April 2025, which mark Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively, are statutory public holidays and should be observed as such throughout the country,” the statement said.
Good Friday and Easter Monday are part of the Christian celebration of Easter, which commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The holidays are typically marked by church services, family gatherings and communal events.
Security agencies are expected to maintain heightened alertness during the extended weekend, as travel activity and public events increase nationwide.
