Ghana’s finance minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, has announced that the government plans to reintroduce road and bridge tolls in 2025.
The announcement came during the presentation of the 2024 mid-year fiscal policy review in Parliament on Tuesday, July 23.
According to Dr. Amin Adam, the reintroduction of tolls is part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance infrastructure funding and management.
“Mr. Speaker, Cabinet has also granted approval for the disbursement of an additional 1.5 billion Ghana Cedis to settle outstanding claims relating to the financial management companies; the establishment of a framework for the re-introduction of Road and Bridge Tolls in 2025,” Amin Adam said.
The collection of road tolls in Ghana was ceased in 2021 following a directive by the former Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako-Atta.
