AUSTIN, Texas- As the countdown to the 2024 SXSW Conference & Festivals begins, the Black Creators & Artist Meet Up event promises to be a great moment for black creators and entrepreneurs to connect.
Jeremy Rashad Brown will lead the event as keynote speaker. Brown is a multifaceted artist, entrepreneur and community builder based in Austin.
As the founder of Brown Boy Productions and the creative mind behind Reggie Rap’s Room, Brown brings a wealth of experience in amplifying marginalized voices and fostering connections within the creative industry.
“For us, it’s just starting to meet one another, seeking out one another first and foremost,” Brown said. “It’s about pulling our resources to help build our own creator economy within ourselves, without having to lean outside of our community.”
The Black Creators & Artist Meet Up serves as a platform for black creators to network, collaborate and support each other. With a focus on breaking down barriers and amplifying voices, this event will address key challenges faced by marginalized communities in the creative industry.
“We’re addressing the lack of resources and funding, which are significant challenges for black creators,” Brown said. “By coming together and pooling our resources, we can start to overcome these obstacles and build a more inclusive and sustainable ecosystem.”
The event is not exclusive to black creators or those from other marginalized communities – it’s open to all. Attendees can expect an engaging and interactive experience, complete with icebreakers and guided activities designed to facilitate networking and collaboration.
With a structured, engaging and welcoming environment, the event will provide an opportunity for attendees to connect with like-minded individuals and forge meaningful relationships.
“We want attendees to come in with a half-game plan, and we’ll help them figure out the other half to make it as effective and impactful as possible,” Brown said.
The event will cover a wide range of topics, including collaborative opportunities, access to resources, celebrating black excellence, mental health awareness, overcoming challenges, building community and more.
The meet up is scheduled to take place from 4-5 p.m. on Monday, March 11 in Room 408 of the Hilton Austin Downtown.
