Senior Staff Association of 16 public universities in Ghana has declared an indefinite strike action effective January 17, 2024.

This decision by the association comes as a result of what they describe as a persistent disregard of their welfare and other conditions of service by government.

As such, this industrial action by the Senior Staff Association is to protest government’s delay in releasing their tier two pension funds and a directive by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, for the cancellation of payment of overtime allowance for weekend and during holidays.

As part of the industrial action, the association has withdrawn its services including the processing of student admissions and graduations, medical services, security, dental care, laboratory facilities, hostel accommodations, mortuary services, laborer’s, cleaners, maintenance, and estate management.

National President of the Senior Staff Association, Isaac  Donkoh in press release said “we have had to reach this painful decision because Government has not shown goodwill and faith in our discussions. Immediately starting today, we have declared an indefinite strike, across Ghana, until Government is ready to engage us.”

“We demand an immediate release of our pension funds, and also a reversal of the directive on over time on holiday and weekend work. It is against our working conditions and terns of service”, he emphasized.
