
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has emerged second at the ESL Grand Finale of the 2024 World University Debate.
The competition which took place from December 27, 2023 to January 5, 2024 in Vietnam, saw many reputable universities from around the globe.
Some of these universities that featured in the tournament include University of Belgrade, Jahangirnagar University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, KNUST among others.
In the competition, numerous debaters of Bangladeshi origin also represented institutions like UC Berkeley, Stanford, HWS USA, and others.
KNUST, however managed to clinched the second position with a remarkable performance. The contestants from KNUST made history with a feat unmatched by any other African university in 44 years of the event’s history. This makes KNUST the only university in Africa to qualify for the Grand Finale two consecutive times in 44 years.

Notwithstanding, a student of KNUST also picked up an award at the 2024 World University Debate Championship. One of the contestants, Kelvin Damptey was named the overall best speaker during the final contest of the competition.
