Asante Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey handed first International call

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club’s midfield maestro, Richmond Lamptey has been handed his first international call to join the Black Stars team to the AFCON 2024 tournament.

The skipper of the Porcupine Warriors have shown stellar performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League with over six involvement in the team’s goals. His superb form and display has contributed to Kotoko’s seven unbeaten game run.

Richmond Lamptey joins notable local players like Jonathan Sowah and Abdul Fatawu Hamid, who are both not new to the Black Stars.

They are tipped to fit in the absence of Arsenal’s Thomas Partey and Leicester’s Fatawu Issahaku who are out of the squad due to injury and personal decision to opt out respectively.

The gaffer of the Ghana men’s National team, Chris Hughton named his 27 man squad that will be participating in the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast after the provisional 53 list was cut down.

The team are currently camping in Kumasi after a U turn from their initial camp stay in South Africa which got the media buzzing and talking.

The stars are tipped to start their preparations on January 2, 2024 and expected to play Namibia in a preparatory game on January 8, 2024 in Kumasi.
