Representatives from the Savannah regional house of chiefs on the National House of Chiefs have opposed the adoption of the revised dagbon constitution over Land boundary differences.
The revised Dagbon constitution which was presented by a delegation from USAiD, Care International and the national peace council sought to serve as an administrative framework for the governance of the Dagbon kingdom.
However, the paramount chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area in the Savannah region, Kpembewura Banbange Ndefeso IV raised an opposition to its acceptance citing inconsistent land boundaries as stated in the revised constitution.

During a national house of chiefs meeting in Kumasi on Thursday, 19th October, 2033 the Kpembewura noted that accepting the revised constitution without settling the land boundary inconsistencies may brew tension in the future.
“Whiles commending the draft of the Dagbon Constitution, we wish to state that some of the enactments are inconsistently covering some lands and communities in the Gonja Kingdom in the drafted Dagbon constitution which appear inaccurate. This boundaries are inconsistent with available traditional and administrative boundaries that have existed between Gonja Kingdom and Dagbon kingdom over decades. It may be a recipe for conflict if allowed by this honorable house.
“The adoption of the proposed dagbon constitution will give identifiable inaccuracies will amount to an unjustifiable and unfair division of lands belonging to Gonja communities in favor Dagbon contrary to the long standing traditional and administrative clearly known to both kingdoms”, Kpembewura stated.
He appealed to the house to supervise a demarcation exercise by stakeholders from both kingdoms before the acceptance of the revised constitution.
“We are respectfully inviting the whole house to conduct further due diligence by effectively engaging the relevant stakeholders particularly from the Gonja side to ascertain the right action of the claim being made in respect of the existing boundaries forms between Gonjas and Dagbon in the proposed Dagbon constitution before the consideration and adoption”, he entreated.
