The member of parliament for the Assin North constituency and a flagbearer aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has disclosed that his “strategist” comment was not directed at the vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

On Sunday, 16th July, 2023 during his flagbearership campaign tour at the Kintampo East constituency, Kennedy Agyapong took a swipe at  government for poor economic management and subjecting Ghanaians to hardship.

Whiles addressing the delegates of the constituency, he said “you call yourself a strategist but when we were taking over power the Dollar was 4 Cedis, today One Dollar is Twelve Cedis and yet you call yourself a strategist. In March 2022, I had 40 million Dollars in Cedi equivalent, in August  2022 the value of the 40 million dollars had dropped to 16 million”.

Although Kennedy Agyapong didn’t mention any name, but a cross-section of Ghanaians associated his comments to the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia who is the head of the economic management team and also an aspiring flagbearer of the NPP.

However, in an interview with Tv3 on Wednesday, 16th August, 2023, the Assin North lawmaker corrected the disassociation of his comments saying that his recent ‘strategist’ comment was not directed at Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia but the deputy minister of finance and MP for Ejisu, John Kumah.

He said “I was referring to John Kumah…I was not referring to the Vice President”.
