KNUST: Sanita Duah condemns recent rape allegations on campus, calls on authorities to urgently address the issue

Sanita Duah, Women And Children’s Right Advocate and a second year Politics student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has joined calls for investigation into the alleged rape cases on the university campus.

Her statement comes after reports of an alleged gang-raped of first year student by six young men.

Two persons, a police officer and KNUST final year student were also charged last week with two counts for allegedly raping a first-year student of the university.

In a statement released and sighted by Thrillernewsgh.com on Wednesday, August 3, Sanita Duah stated that “these acts are simply horrifying and traumatic experiences for ourselves and our ladies and must not be condoned in any modern society”.

She called on the school authorities through the Students’ Representative Council Women’s Commissioner (SRC WOCOM) to condemn the act and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

RE: SIX (6) MALE STUDENTS RAPE A FIRST YEAR FEMALE STUDENT.

I remain speechless at the reports of rape and sexual violence committed against female students on KNUST campus in recent times.

Some few weeks back, the report was a student together with a non-student forcibly assaulting, sexually, a female student. Just last week, it is again reported that six male students forcibly assaulted a female student sexually.

As a woman and a strong advocate for women and children, I become teary at these reports. I totally condemn unreservedly and unequivocally these inhumane and unearthly acts of some unscrupulous individuals who shamelessly perpetuate these abominable acts.

These act are simply horrifying and traumatic experiences for ourselves and our ladies and must not be condoned in any modern society. I call on every female student on KNUST campus to take their safety and security very serious and a matter of first priority even in these time of writing Midsem Examinations.

I call on the SRC through its WOMENS COMMISSION to condemn these act and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book. The Commission must do everything in their power to prevent and combat the violent acts against ladies and safeguard their security on and off campus.

At the same time, I encourage also our ladies to raise any fragile situation of ourselves and our colleagues that are likely to put us in such unfortunate ordeals.

Lastly, I call on all well meaning students, students leaders, both circular and religious, civil society and advocacy groups to join condemn these abominable acts.
