One of the most popular and respected Hall at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Unity Hall, marks its 53rd anniversary today Saturday October 16, 2021.

Gaining grounds and popularity in the country at large, Unity Hall on October 16, 1968, admitted its first batch of students. The idea for the establishment of the Hall was to reflect the collection of good visions of Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana and Nyere Julius of Tanzania of the time of formation of the organization of Africa unity and also as a sign of peace and unity of the African countries. Thus, the idea of the name for the hall stemmed from Africa unity.

Unity Hall is the largest hall in the sub-Saharan region. It has an original accommodation capacity of 448 rooms but presently has 36 extra flats. The large facility is popularly referred to as “The Twin Towers” owing to the design of the structure.

Members of Unity hall are popularly known as “Continentals”. The slogan of the Hall is denoted as ‘Conti-Power’.

Facilities of the Hall include a modern internet cafe, Communication & Business centre, basketball court, games room, a boutique & gift shop, barbering salon, kitchen that serves food and a Shopping mall with a well-stocked Supermarket.

It has the most comfortable, friendly and spacious Junior Common Room on campus.

It was an all-male hall until 1st of August, 2018 when it was converted into a mixed hall by university authorities.

Unity Hall is now 53 years old. Members of the Hall have taken over the various social media platforms to celebrate this memorable day as the University is currently on vacation.

As it prides itself as the Hall of Academicians, Unity Hall can boast of many achievements as it marks 53rd anniversary today. This ranges from infrastructures and human resources. The former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, the VC of the University, Prof. W. O. Ellis among others.
