The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will host the 2021 edition of the National Championship of 2021 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ).
The NSMQ Competition has since 1998 been held at the University of Ghana in Accra. This will be a remarkable moment as the event moves to KNUST in the Ashanti Region.
The NSMQ competition will determine which Senior High School will seal the envious trophy and the bragging rights as champions of science and maths education in Ghana.
According to sources, The organizers of the event took this decision due to the unavailability of the University of Ghana to host the Championship, following a change in their academic calendar.
The One-Eighth Stage to the Grand Finale is scheduled from November 12 to November 26, 2021.
This will be after the Preliminary Stage of the competition has been completed at the various zonal and regional levels.
The Ashanti Region is regarded as one of the NSMQ powerhouses with six trophies, the second-highest, after Greater Accra Region.
Prempeh College won the maiden competition in 1994.
It is expected that Kumasi will produce yet another competitive and exciting contest.
The national championship, which usually takes place in June, had to be delayed due to changes in the academic calendar owing to the impact of Covid-19.
The official launch will take place on October 19, after which 119 schools will contest in the preliminary stage of the competition.
Reigning champion Presbyterian Boys’ SHS, Legon and 26 other seeded schools will later join the competition at the one-eighth stage when the 81 preliminary winners have been determined.
PRESEC Legon will be yearning to make a third consecutive appearance at the Grand Finale on November 26 and possibly extend its dominance.
