Background
During the inaugural address of the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Rita Akosua Dickson, she said one of her key vision will be to roll out a special initiative dubbed: “Support one needy student with one laptop” to help poor students who may be unable to acquire a laptop for online studies.

Prof Dickson promised to position KNUST in the global community by promoting research and helping Industry to grow.
She also promised to champion entrepreneurship and critical thinking through evidence based teaching and learning.
Prof. Akosua Dickson said digital and e-education would be key in sustaining education all year round and to create a young research forum for the university.
According to Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson, it has become necessary to build a robust and resilient e-system together with diverse online platforms to enhance teaching, learning and research.
Speaking at a meeting with Senior Members of the six Colleges of the University to unveil her vision for the school, she explained that the move comes on the back of the effects of the pandemic on academic work.

“There are plans of increasing access to ICT and digitization infrastructure particularly about the role of ICT in teaching and learning. The Coronavirus caused academic work to be moved online therefore, it has become needful for the inclusion of Smart Technologies for synchronous and asynchronous teaching, learning, assessments, and research and virtual and augmented reality labs for 3D-aided learning. For this cause, KNUST, with the help of philanthropists, would introduce the “SONSOL PROJECT” to support one needy student with one laptop,” she said.

She disclosed that the school will establish an Enterprise Development Unit (EDU) to coordinate and commercialize research and findings.
In the perspective to roll out ‘impactful Research and Innovations’, Prof. Dickson indicated that the institution will create a Young Researchers Forum (YRF) intended to acquire skills in Grantsmanship, Teaching and Research Communications.
She further added that her outfit envisioned introducing the Vice-Chancellor’s Industry Biannual Encounter (VIBE Meetings) as well as enhancing Library Research Support Services.
