The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has donated GHC 12,000 to Miss Rita Adjoa Abodoh, a fourth-year medical student of the University.

The beneficiary, Rita Adwoa Abudo, a Medical student, is currently battling a worrying medical condition, which needed funding to support her medical surgery.

She requires extensive and expensive surgery to remove an affected bone to be replaced with a prosthesis. The estimated cost of the surgery is a minimum of about 150,000 euros.

The President of the association, Mr. Tony Agyapong expressed concern about how expensive the surgery is and the initiative taken by members of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) to raise funds to support the surgery of the Medical student as a means of the association fulfilling its social and corporate responsibility.

“One of our colleagues in the Dean of students’ office called our attention to this appeal for funds for Rita to enable her to go through her surgery. The Executives picked up and we discussed and realized that we should have a way of contributing towards Rita’s appeal. In doing this we are looking at corporate social responsibility not specifically for Rita but for humanity and therefore when we put it on our platform for members to contribute, they willingly and gladly accepted to contribute. We have contributed various sums of money yielding this twelve thousand Ghana cedis .”

Professor of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof. Daniel Ansong who received the donation on behalf of Rita Adwoa Abudo expressed his concerns on Rita’s health and how funding from external sources would help Rita and her family a great deal.

“I’m receiving these funds on behalf of Rita who is unwell. Rita’s illness was brought to my attention about a month and a half ago by the parents and they visited us with the report. Based on the findings the doctors have found so far, she would need surgery that is very expensive. Being a medical doctor in that serious situation, we believe that funds from other external sources to the family will help her achieve the health results that we all need.”

He also appealed to the public and encouraged anyone who would want to donate to support the surgery of Rita Adwoa Abudo to do so as they are ready to welcome any funds.

The President of the Medical Students Association KNUST expressed his gratitude on behalf of the beneficiary for the donation made.

“On behalf of the MSA and Rita, we want to thank you for the donation that you have made. We all want Rita to be well and we know that with this donation, we’ve gotten to a position where we are at least a step closer to seeing her recover. So we want to thank you for your kind gesture. May God bless you!”
