NDC recaptures Akwatia seat; Dumelo loses Ayawaso West Wuogon

The opposition National Democratic Congress has recaptured the Akwatia Parliamentary seat from the ruling New Patriotic Party.

A 51-year-old Businessman, Mr. Henry Boakye Yiadom alias Okoyo of the NDC defeated his sole contender Enerst Kumi of the NPP with 19,899 votes as against 18,742 garnered by the latter to win back the seat for the NDC.

In 2016, a hairdresser by Profession-Mercy Adu Gyamfi Bello, popularly known as Ama Sey defeated then Member of Parliament Baba Jamal Ahmed to become the MP.

However, her bid to seek re-election for a second term was truncated when she lost the parliamentary primaries to Ernest Yaw Kumi, a result she contested and called for recount but was not granted.

Whereas majority of the NPP supporters voted for Nana Akufo-Addo who garnered 21,758 votes but in the Parliamentary election they voted for the NDC Candidate.

Meanwhile in the hotly contested Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency, Popular Movie Star John Dumelo lost his bid to go to Parliament after he was defeated by Lydia Alhassan of the NPP.

Lydia Alhassan polled 39,8521 while Dumelo garnered 37,778 votes.
