President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Issac Jay Hyde, says the Union has initiated plans to support students in dire need during this lockdown period.
Through the Food Bank Project, an initiative by NUGS, students in lockdown areas will benefit from free supply of food on scheduled days to ensure that the social distancing preventive measure is duly observed.
Speaking on Campus Exclusive on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, Isaac Hyde disclosed that three call centers have been set up to aid the distribution of the food items and other basic supplies to the students for the next 12 days the lockdown.
He therefore directed affected students to call any of the centers in Accra North, Accra East and Accra West, to prove themselves fit for the relief items.
“We cannot solve all students plight but we can try to mitigate the situation, there is no need abusing the system or taking advantage. Let us all come together and bring relief to students in need,” he said.
He called on cooperate organizations and individuals to come on board and provide assistance for a successful rollout of the Project.
The launch of the Food Bank Project saw the limelight after several students in lockdown areas had wailed for support and relief from authorities. In addition to the distribution of foods, recharge cards have also been made available to students precluding those who have received recharge and data packages from their institutions.
