HISTORY MADE: University of Ghana students create their own Video Assistant Referee at GUSA Games 2020

It is was first introduced in Europe by the football union UEFA. And was adopted and used by FIFA during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. 

The technology is yet to be officially introduced into Ghana football; something which will go a long way into ensuring that refereeing decisions  taken during our league matches are as accurate as possible.

The Ghana University Students Association games ended today and some students of the University of Ghana, using the VAR technology reproduced a similar setup during the final match which saw the UG side emerge the winners. 

The University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS) Multi Media Team who covered the match between themselves and UMAT used 5 cameras and a drone for their coverage.

It afforded them the benefits of replays of tackles which needed attention by the referee. This is the first time this technology is being used at the Games.
