The 7th President of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(CoHSS-KNUST), Francis Xavier Ziekye, has said despite efforts by previous administrations, the college is still bedeviled with some challenges.

According to him, to ensure a conducive learning environment for the development of future leaders, the welfare of students should be considered paramount.

However, during his inaugural address on Sunday, October 23, 2022, the first gentleman of CoHSS-KNUST bemoaned the challenges students are faced.

Prof. Xavier, as is affectionately called, has pledged to contribute his quota to better circumstances.

“We have come so far as an association and there are still many things we have to do. I am so grateful from the bottom of my heart to the previous administration for their contribution to the success story of our college. I know we are facing many challenges and difficulties when it comes to our welfare and academic pursuits and I am here to assure all of you that our welfare shall be improved, we shall be developed holistically to meet the needs of the seemingly competitive and unavailable job market.

“CoHSS welfare shall be restored, we shall revamp the CoHSS Food House, we shall empower our students with requisite skills for them to be able to create jobs for themselves and we shall provide equal opportunities for all”, he inspired.

He added saying “I understand the hurdles we go through during exams, where we have to wait under the scorching sun before we go in to write our examination and how pressing it is to have a restaurant especially at the faculty of law”.

Prof. Xavier is optimistic of great improvements in the state of affairs through collective efforts.

“The Solutions to these are challenging but we will do our very best to get them solved. We do not have enough time but we can do so much and set a good foundation for successive patriots to build on it if we will all come on board to give life to this new born baby, he stressed.

While calling for constructive criticisms, he pledged the commitment of his administration to meet the aspirations of the student populace.

“Being the 7th president of CoHSS, I believe is divinely ordained to bring hope, trust and restore the confidence in student’s leadership. It took seven days for the people of Israel to pull down the walls of Jericho which represents stagnation, slavery and backwardness and it will surely take the 7th President to bring joy and smiles on the faces of the good students of CoHSS. If my name will go down in the history of our noble college then it is because my soul and my spirit is in this course”, he stated.

“Permit me to use this opportunity to thank all those who supported my campaign, who believe in my vision and sense of conviction that May God bless them all. Now to those who did not support me, hear me out, take a critical measure of me and my heart and if you still don’t believe in me, that’s democracy but let it be known that I will be a president for all, president for Faculty of Social sciences, president for Faculty of Law and president for School of Business. I will show the same care and concern to you just as those who supported me. We may always disagree but our disagreement should lead to unison”, he stressed.
