The board of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) has lifted the ban imposed in 2019 on dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.

The ban was imposed following a brawl between the two artistes at the 20th edition. The brawl involved the brandishing of a gun.

The two decorated musicians were, as a result, barred from filing nominations in the following year’s edition.

But at its inaugural meeting on Thursday, January 28 ahead of the 22nd VGMA, the board decided to reinstate the two artistes.

“The Board agreed to admit them back to the scheme, hoping that such altercations that bring the scheme into disrepute, do not occur in future events,” a press release issued by the board on Friday, February 12 said.

“This makes them eligible to participate in this and subsequent editions of VGMA, if they so desire.”

Their collaborative works with other artistes are also eligible for award selection.

Already, nominations have opened for this year’s edition. It will close on Monday, February 15.

Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have since smoked the peace pipe though the matter is still in court.
